Whiskers was found shivering in an alleyway downtown during a heavy rainstorm. A concerned citizen called our rescue team, who quickly brought him in. He was underweight, had a few minor scratches, but was otherwise healthy. We gave him a warm bed, nutritious food, and plenty of patience.

Over the next three months, his timid personality blossomed into something truly special. He went from hiding under blankets to greeting volunteers at his kennel door with gentle headbutts. A lovely couple, the Smiths, came in looking for a quiet companion and instantly fell in love with his gentle purr.

Now, Whiskers spends his days sunbathing on a high-rise balcony, fully embracing his new luxurious city life. The Smiths send us regular updates, and we couldn't be happier for this sweet boy!

Luna, a sweet-natured mixed breed, waited patiently for over 400 days in our shelter. Despite her joyful tail wags and excellent behavior during training sessions, she was repeatedly overlooked for younger puppies.

Enter Sarah, a local middle school teacher looking for a running buddy. When Sarah sat in Luna's kennel, Luna immediately rested her heavy head on Sarah's lap and let out a big sigh. It was a perfect match. Sarah knew right then that she wasn't leaving without her.

Today, Luna is an honorary mascot at Sarah's school, visiting the kids on special occasions, and enjoys daily evening jogs around the neighborhood. Her long wait was finally over.

Spring is our absolute busiest season at MetroPets! As "kitten season" officially begins and more dogs crave outdoor exercise in the sunshine, our amazing staff gets stretched thin. That's why we rely so heavily on our community.

Our Spring Volunteer Drive aims to bring in 50 new dedicated volunteers. Roles range from dog walking and cat socialization to helping with laundry, cleaning enclosures, and administrative tasks at the front desk. No prior experience is necessary, just a big heart and a willingness to help.

Get ready for the biggest and most exciting pet event of the year! The 2026 Paws in the Park charity walk is officially scheduled for May 20th at Centennial Park.

This year's event will feature our classic 5K walking route, a doggy costume contest with celebrity guest judges, and over 30 local vendor booths selling handmade pet treats and accessories. All proceeds from the event go directly to funding our emergency medical fund, which covers life-saving surgeries for animals brought to us in critical condition.

We are absolutely thrilled to announce the grand opening of our newly renovated Feline Wing! This project has been months in the making, and we couldn't have done it without the support of our incredible community.

Thanks to a generous community grant and individual donations from supporters like you, we've completely replaced the old metal cages with spacious, multi-level condos that give each cat separate areas for sleeping, eating, and using the litter box.

The new wing also features a free-roaming 'Catty Shack' playroom equipped with floor-to-ceiling climbing walls, scratching posts, and interactive toys. This stress-free environment helps our cats stay healthy and allows them to show off their true personalities to potential adopters.

At ten years old, Buster found himself surrendered to the shelter when his lifelong owner had to move into an assisted living facility. Senior dogs often struggle with the sudden change and noisy environment of a shelter, and Buster was no exception.

He spent his first few weeks sleeping quietly in the corner of his kennel, confused and heartbroken. Then, retirees John and Martha visited us, specifically asking for a calm, older companion who just wanted to relax on the porch.

When we introduced them to Buster, he slowly walked up to Martha and leaned his entire body weight against her leg, looking up with soulful eyes. It was an instant connection. Buster is now living his golden years enjoying slow neighborhood sniffs and sleeping on a plush orthopedic bed.
